Five Spice, Soy & Honey Chicken and Broccoli… a quick, easy and high protein Chinese inspired dinner. This recipe is full of flavour and prepared with minimal effort. Add it to your meal rotation now!
The best flavour here is achieved by first dredging the chicken in an easy spice mix and frying, then coating it in a sweet and sticky sauce of soy and honey with a serving of fresh broccoli for the vegetable! Serve with steaming rice for an easy midweek meal.
How to make five spice, soy and honey chicken
Ingredients
Dredging mix:
- 2tbsp plain flour
- 1tbsp five spice powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Chicken & Broccoli:
- 400g chicken breast (diced)
- 1tbsp cooking oil
- 100g broccoli (chopped into bite sized pieces)
- 2x servings white rice (we used 150g dry)
For the sauce:
- 50ml runny honey
- 50ml soy sauce
- 1tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic (grated)
- Thumb size piece ginger (grated)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine together the ingredients for your dredging mixture and then toss the diced chicken through to coat well.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the sauce ingredients – use a whisk to combine well.
- In a hot frying pan with cooking oil, fry the chicken pieces until cooked through (timing varies based on the size of chicken pieces you’re using).
- In a saucepan, simmer the sauce mixture for roughly 7-8 minutes until thickened.
- Once the chicken is almost cooked, add the thickened sauce to the frying pan with the broccoli and stir well to combine. Allow to simmer for 2 minutes more until the broccoli begins to soften.
- Serve the chicken and broccoli with cooked white rice.
